HOLLYWOOD – Chaminade-Madonna senior cornerback Adrian Baker has every intention to still sign with Florida State, who verbally committed to in early July, but he says he’s keeping his options open between now and February.
“Honestly, my Grandma, she’s always told me not to close any doors, so I’ve kind of talked to other schools,” Baker said Tuesday. “I’m committed, but at the same time, I’m looking around. Not really looking, but anything can happen.”
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Baker, a Sun-Sentinel preseason Super 11 selection, said Florida State’s coaching staff told him they’re OK with him taking official visits elsewhere.
“I was actually kind of shocked, but at the same time that’s good,” Baker said of FSU coaches’ reaction. “I like that because it shows they have confidence in their program and their facilities. I really like that.”
Baker said he isn’t sure where he’ll visit, but noted Oklahoma, Clemson, Tennessee, Louisville, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Nebraska are all recruiting him hard. Ohio State, interestingly, wants Baker as a receiver.
It’s a position he convinced Chaminade coach Ty Tyrrell to let him play on a limited basis this season, and so far he has two catches – both for touchdowns.
Wisconsin is also pursuing another big-time Broward County corner, Plantation’s Sojourn Shelton, as well as South Plantation running back Alex Collins, currently a University of Miami commit.
