Nobu – New York to Kanji Sushi – Toronto ... - The Power Of Madonna

Kanji has come to Parkdale to fill the neighbourhood's relative sushi void. Occupying a former discount/grocery store, Kanji is the child of restaurateur Rob Banton of Nyood. The old stone building has been modernized by the team behind SpiN, with dark walls and wood fixtures. Billed also as a cocktail and sake bar, it's aiming for the sweet spot between classy dinner joint and a place for after-work drinks. I found this spot by accident one day riding my bike, went in and was blown away by both the design concept, it reminded me a little of some of the places I go to in London. Right away the mood of the places catches you, then you hear that the chef formerly worked at Nobu, and that is all it takes for me as Nobu is my favorite place for Sushi on the planet. During Madonna's, MDNA Tour some of the crew including her lead guitarist wanted to eat somewhere and sushi came up, the magic word was chef from Nobu, and the limo was told to head straight to this spot. I love the place and everyone that has gone with me loves it, and are just blown away by the food. Some have said to me “it's only my second course but I'm blown away”. I can't tell you what to have but you will just have to go to Kanji and try the various dishes.
