Imagine the jobs that our famous celebrities did before they got their huge breaks and made a mark in the entertainment industry. Did they actually become instant celebrities? Are they living the life that they are experiencing now?
It can be a bit unbelievable sometimes but several celebrities have a different lifestyle before becoming famous. A lot of them started out with regular and low-paying jobs prior to their stardom and success. Getting discovered requires a lot of things including the right exposure and an interesting personality.
Pursuing the dream to become famous and or rich is not easy. Until you are discovered or get that one ‘break’, you still have to survive! They may be some of the most recognizable faces today, but many started with humble beginnings and mediocre jobs.
Dance was Madonna’s major in college. The only problem was she was not seeing the success she so badly wanted. She had become bored and wanted a change in her life. Soon college was a dim memory and Madonna struck out for New York and more career opportunities.
She struggled to make ends meet dancing so she went to work at Dunkin Donuts. She helped glaze donuts and took customer orders until her break. Madonna, Dunkin Donuts worker Madonna, has left her mark forever on the music world as one of the bestselling artists of all time! Before she became what you see today, she moved to New York with a measly $35!
Aside from Madonna, another huge name in the music industry is none other than Mariah Carey who is very much famous because of her huge hits like Hero and Always Be My Baby. You would think that this powerful diva had a really great start but her first record deal in 1990 with Columbia Records came after she worked at different jobs. Do you know that she helped clean a certain hair salon by sweeping hair off the floor? She also worked as a waitress and even tried checking hats and coats.
Mariah comes from humble beginnings despite her pop star diva image now. While waiting for her luck to change Mariah sang in nightclubs and did backup for singer Brenda K Starr. It was during her stint as a backup singer that her luck definitely changed; she attended a music industry party, prepared with her demo, and was discovered.
Helen Mirren has definitely made a name for herself as an actress, she has won a variety of awards including BAFTA’s, Emmys, Golden Globes and an Oscar but before all of this, she worked at an amusement park by the sea.
Do you know what a clay trapper is? It’s someone who works at a shooting range, throwing targets in the air made by clay for the shooters. Do you know which famous celebrity had that as a job? Orlando Bloom a.k.a. Legolas from the Lord of the Rings trilogy worked as a clay trapper, believe it or not. That role has helped him make an even bigger mark in the showbiz industry.
Matthew McConaughey did an even harder job before gaining recognition in 1993. He worked in a certain chicken coop in Australia. One of his regular tasks is to scoop up chicken poop. He did this while he was studying there as an exchange student.
He may be a major sitcom star and standup comedian but it was not always so for Jerry Seinfeld. In the early days, he made a living selling light bulbs over the phone to various customers.
What did one of the world’s sexiest men do for a living before he was famous? Well, Brad Pitt wore a chicken suit while handing out flyers for El Pollo Loco Restaurant. While in Los Angeles Brad would also earn money moving refrigerators and driving limos.
Today he is a happily married man, and who wouldn’t be with Angelina Jolie as the mother of your children? He is one-half of Hollywood’s hottest couples and they have six children.
It may be a long running joke for some but Jack Nicholson really did work his way up from the mailroom. It does not hurt that the mailroom was at MGM; however, he also worked as a lifeguard and in a toy store before getting a break in 1969.
Sometimes, it can really be surprising to know the humble beginnings and the rags-to-riches stories of some of our most famous celebrities. They were once normal people and before they got their ticket to stardom, they did everything they could to chase their goals and dreams of being a star.
There are several paths to fame and riches but there are no guarantees. You could pursue it and never get the break you deserve. Nonetheless, if you are unique, put your best foot forward, work hard and are always prepared there is a good chance you will achieve success.
When acting roles begin coming in, be very choosy. Taking the wrong part in a movie can make or break your career. An early wrong move could devastate your career before it even gets a chance to start. Until you become successful do not be afraid to work even menial jobs, you never know where you might be ‘discovered’.
