When Madonna turned up at the Oscars on the arm of the King Of Pop, I don’t think those little gold trophies had ever felt any less important on their big day than they did in 1991. The paparazzi and the world didn’t want to know who had won what. They wanted to know if they king and queen were together! Obviously, they weren’t – It was a massive publicity stunt that I believe work more in M’s favour than Jacko’s.
For fans, the most important part of the night was Madonna’s jaw-dropping and completely flawless version of the Stephen Sondheim track ‘Sooner Or Later’, taken from the Dick Tracy soundtrack. The song later went on to win the academy award for Best Original Song and assured naysayers that Madonna could actually cut it live! What a performance!
I wonder if Adele’s performance of ‘Skyfall’ tonight will top M’s performance!!!
