Another big trend on the red carpet at the Teen Choice Awards (besides big prints and bad dresses) was exposed midriff. It’s not a look that works for everyone, but when done tastefully, it looks great. So how do you know if it’s a look that works for you? Easy. I made a list of ten rules to remember.
TOP TEN RULES FOR BARING YOUR MIDRIFF:
1. First and foremost, make sure your midriff is suitable for exposure
2. Consider the venue. For instance, your grandmother’s funeral is not a place for exposed midriff, no matter how tasteful.
3. Midriff above the bellybutton = good
4. Midriff below the bellybutton = bad
5. Underboob is NOT part of your midriff. Don’t show it.
6. Unless you’re Gwen Stefani, midriff over 40 should not be attempted.
7. Exposed midriff is not for you if you have any of the following tattoos: a tramp stamp, a sun around your navel, or the words “Thug Life” on your stomach.
8. If you have belly hair, exposed midriff isn’t for you either. But you might want to invest in some D-I-Y hair removal products. Talk to Tim McGraw. He knows all about hair removal.
9. If you could fit a cue ball in your belly button, spare the world your bare midriff.
10. If you’ve recently given birth to octuplets, bare midriff is not in the cards for you. EVER.
