Well, there are 15 minutes of my life I won’t get back. In fact, I definitely didn’t need to re-write those lyrics. You can replace “holiday” with “automate” and the song still sticks together pretty well. Anyway, my version of the song popped into my head months ago when the perfect storm hit…
On a late Friday afternoon someone made the executive decision to take control of the Sonos sound system and pump Spotify’s “80s Pop Megamix” playlist throughout the office. Not a bad choice (in fact, I recommend). Eventually, Madonna’s catchy “Holiday” track came on. And when I say “catchy,” I mean it in the, “why-the-hell-can’t-I-get-this-song-out-of-my-head” sort of way. While this song is infectiously bouncing around the office, I happened to be on a customer call, focused around enabling automation in their datacenter. So it was the collision of these two events that spawned my sad excuse at a B-side Weird Al parody.
