Kanye West hasn’t always had the best relationship with the VMAs—this was the awards show, after all, where he orignally landed in hot water after interrupting Taylor Swift on stage. Still, he’ll have a very good reason to celebrate this coming Sunday (August 30th) at 9:00 p.m. ET, when he’s awarded the VMA’s highest honor: “Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.”

The award goes to those who have achieved a lifetime of music video greatness. There can be no doubt, in West’s case—after all, he’s been releasing cinematic greatness for over a decade, from “Jesus Walks” to his “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” short film all the way to “Bound 2” and “Only One.” A press release notes that West “has blended musical and visual artistry to powerful effect” throughout his career.
He will join a highly impressive roster of previous Vanguard winners—these include Michael Jackson, Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Guns N’ Roses, Beastie Boys, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce.
