2014 Giro d'Italia Stage 8 Preview - Bike World News

Saturday’s eighth stage of the 2014 Giro d’Italia will be a solid test for the GC riders. While the 179km route from Foligno to Montecopiolo has a few bumps to start with, the two cat-1’s, separated by a cat-2, that conclude the stage will be the true challenge.

At 143kms, the riders will have tackled a 20km cat-1 up the Cippo di Carpegna. The Villagio del Lago will not be a favorite after such a tough climb, but the final 4kms on Eremo Madonna del Faggio are excruciatingly difficult.

Most likely, the GC men will mark each other, but if one falters or shows any sign of weakness, this could be a moment where the Giro is lost. An opportunistic rider could take advantage of the climbs to steal some glory. And, the finish is just 20kms outside of San Marino, so there will probably be quite a few fans to show off for, too. Hopefully the spectators don’t cause the riders any problems!
