Celebrity Disaster: Poor Madonna and Her Delusions of Relevance

I am not going to throw gasoline on this fire and put the mashups here. I have long avoided putting MP3s and the like on my blogs, and I'm not going to start now just because some poor old lady sees her dismal future ahead and wants to take pot shots at a young lady who, for lack of a better word, has the next thirty years of American pop culture square in her sights.

When Lady Gaga is of the same age as Madonna, she will probably lash out and have a public fit and lament the fact that her fanbase has fled to a younger, edgier, and more talented diva.

Madonna's fit is entirely about the fact that her new album has tanked and there is absolutely no reason for her to be on tour right now. The product has failed; the promotional tour behind that product has turned into an extended complaint about the state of affairs that Madonna found herself in one morning when she realized that her time has passed.

The magic number is 27, or thereabouts. That is the age difference between Madonna and Lady Gaga, give or take a few months for arguing. I will round that up to thirty and say that this is the fault line in pop diva music right now.

On that fateful day, when Madonna is wearing an aluminum bra in her late eighties and when Lady Gaga is using plastic to hold up whatever she has left of herself, Beyonce (age 30, look it up) will walk on a stage somewhere and remind the world why she has always been the real deal.

If it was up to me, I'd toss all of them and make Kristen Hersh the queen of all things.
